A wonderful pair of antique coral earrings made in Italy in the mid 19th Century. They depict two hand carved coral hands making a Corna (“horn”) gesture and have a lovely deep red/ orange colour that is produced naturally in the depths of the ocean.
Red Coral has been worn as a protective amulet in Italy for centuries. The Corna gesture was a common motif and said to repel evil spirits and bring good luck.
The earrings have been fitted with 18ct gold settings and hooks with a second coral sphere on top. They’re highly unique and have remained in excellent condition.
We recommend you insure for £1,800. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
